Like the health care system itself, the laws and regulations governing the health care industry are labyrinthine. Over the years, judges have variously described the Medicare and Medicaid authorities as “law written by James Joyce and edited by e.e. cummings,” “among the most completely impenetrable texts within human experience” and an “aggravated assault on the English language.” The On Call blog aims to make US health law a little more accessible and a lot less daunting.
On Call is prepared by the Health Care group at Dentons US. Our team includes dozens of full-time health lawyers across the United States. Many of us have spent decades in private practice. Others have worked in-house at hospitals, health systems and drug and device manufacturers. Still others have held senior positions at HHS, CMS, and DOJ.
Due to the breadth of our experience, and our track record of success, we have come to represent stakeholders across the health care industry, including many of the most prominent providers, suppliers, manufacturers, payors and health care investors in the world. Along the way, many of our lawyers have become thought leaders in the health care space.
On Call is a vehicle for sharing this thought leadership. Each blog post analyzes a recent legal development, such as a new piece of legislation, a notable case or settlement, or new guidance issued by a regulatory agency. Our objective is to identify recent developments that are likely to be relevant to the day-to-day operations of health care organizations, their longer-term strategic goals or both.
